A reported “unexploded ordnance” in Upper Tumon confirmed to be a dud.
Following an emergency evacuation at the Harmon Villa Garden Apartments in Upper Tumon, officials say the discovered ordnance was a dummy grenade left behind by a former resident.
The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense were notified by 911 Dispatch of an unexploded ordnance found within one of the units
Guam Police Department and Guam Fire Department were on scene, and an Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit was deployed to assess the device.
There were no road closures in the area.
The community is reminded to practice the “3Rs of Explosive Safety” when any UXO is encountered:
· Recognize - when you may have encountered a munition and that munitions are dangerous.
· Retreat - do not approach, touch, move, or disturb it, but carefully leave the area.
· Report - call 911 and advise of what you saw and where you saw it.
