The case is closed in the Guam Memorial Hospital death investigation where a discharged emergency room patient fell to her death last month.

As reported, it was on March 15th when the body of 58 year old Rita A. Perez of Mangilao was discovered at the hospital, activating detectives from the Criminal Investigation Section with the Guam Police Department.

On March 25th, Chief of Police Stephen Ignacio said Perez fell from three floors and landed in the hospital courtyard. The investigation was ongoing pending a toxicology report from the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office.

Investigators received the CME’s report on Perez on April 21, according to a press release from GPD.

GPD Public Information Officer Norman Analista said, “Perez’s manner of death was ruled a suicide.”

According to Analista, the ruling is based on the factors that there was no indication of foul play and surveillance footage shows Perez alone and walking around and onto the 4th floor.

“The cause of death was from a fall from height and multiple blunt force injuries,” he added. “GPD offers its sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Rita A. Perez.”
