Volunteers involved in the search party found the body of the man who did not return following a hike at the Sella Bay trail late Saturday afternoon.

At 8:41 Monday morning, the missing hiker's body was located about a half mile off the hiking trail, according to Guam Fire Department spokesperson Nick Garrido.

The 49-year-old man was identified by family members as Chris Zink. Authorities say he was visiting the island.

Zink went hiking Saturday and last called his wife around 4 p.m. that day letting her know he was on his way out, but he never made it to the trailhead.

Both local and military officials were involved in trying to locate Zink.

"Condolences to the family. Though it was an unfortunate situation, we hope that finding the hiker would bring some closure to the family," Garrido said. "And a reminder, when doing any type of outdoor or recreation activity, we want to make sure have them adhere to the weather reports by the National Weather Service and Guam Homeland Security/ Office of Civil Defense. But also a buddy system is something we try to push. Have a partner when going out into these types of environments."

The Guam Police Department is investigating the incident.

GFD also thanks GPD, the U.S. Navy Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 25, the U.S. Coast Guard, the Guam National Guard Lakota, Guam Homeland Security/Office of civil defense, drone optics, and other volunteers for their efforts over the past couple of days.
