It’s been three weeks since a video captured a Guam police officer kicking a man on the ground went viral.

“We’re still investigating the viral video and who the officer is involved in that video that allegedly has been kicking the person on the ground,” said Police Chief, Stephen Ignacio.

He told KUAM the Guam Police Department is still investigating the incident along with a shooting that involved one of his own.

The first incident occurred on June 13, showing disturbing images of an officer repeatedly kicking a man on the ground, while another was captured tasering a man.

The second incident on June 23, just ten days later, involved a car chase in Mangilao that led to a shootout between the suspects and police.

Sources close to the investigation confirmed with KUAM that the cop under the microscope in the alleged police brutality video was the same officer who pulled the trigger in last week's officer-involved shooting.

When asked about it in the days that followed, Ignacio said, “I’'m not confirming that it's the same officer.”

This incident was more than two weeks ago, but the chief admitted he still can’t say if they are the same person.

“We’re still determining who are the officers that were present at the scene,” he said.

Meanwhile, the viral video is sparking concern and debate from the community with one viewer commenting, “This is why people don’t trust the police department here on island.”

On the flip side, another said, “Everyone talking should try out for law enforcement. All you see is 4 to 1, but did it ever occur to you that maybe, just maybe the force that was applied was needed?”

Meantime, the chief confirmed the officer who discharged his firearm during the car chase is on paid leave.

We should note no one was injured in the officer-involved shooting.
