Partial implementation of rotating outage schedule amid emergency repairs to two baseload plants
The Guam Power Authority is alerting customers to a possible partial implementation of rotating outages starting at 4 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 10.
This comes as emergency repairs are underway for two baseload power plants.
GPA reports limited generation capacity due to emergency repairs at the Piti #9 and Cabras #2 plants, with both expected to return to service later this week.
The Yigo combustion turbine also remains offline for hydraulic system repairs.
To address the shortfall, GPA is coordinating with battery operators to shift energy storage and seeking additional support from partners like the U.S. Navy and major local facilities.
GPA also encourages customers to conserve energy between 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. by limiting air conditioner use and turning off water heaters.
GPA assures the public that rotating outages are a last resort and thanks the community for its patience while repairs are underway.
