Authorities are searching for a 16-year-old male who escaped from the Department of Youth Affairs' Youth Correctional Facility in Mangilao around 12:40pm Thursday. 

Officials say two juveniles climbed over a barbed-wire fence and fled the facility. During the incident, a DYA officer was injured while attempting to apprehend the youths and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Within two hours, Guam Police Department officers captured one of the juveniles. The second 16-year-old remains at large.

According to DYA, the teen has been in custody since September 4, 2024, on multiple charges including burglary, criminal trespass, conspiracy to commit theft, theft of property, criminal mischief, and beyond control.

The minor is described as male, 16 years old, 5’4”, approximately 148 pounds, Chamoru, brown eyes, and black hair

He was last seen wearing a black polo shirt, black shorts, and no footwear. He reportedly has a scar and a birthmark on the left side of his abdomen.
