AG's roundtable on surge in gas prices cancelled, separate meetings to be held
Gas prices on Guam rose four times since the conflict in Iran began
The attorney general’s roundtable meeting scheduled for Wednesday to investigate the surge in gas prices has been cancelled. As reported, AG Doug Moylan is investigating what he calls a “dramatic increase” in gas prices tied to the ongoing Middle East conflict.
Moylan tells KUAM News he will instead be meeting with the representatives of the three gas companies separately due to scheduling conflicts.
He says those meetings are important to build trust with the community, though they will not be open to the media or the public. "Number one, the war started about March 1, Guam time," he said. "Why did the prices jump so quickly if you had inventory that was purchased at a lower amount. That type of discussion. It’s always been a question why do the three gas providers start raising their prices at the same time when their supply of their inventories may be different from what they purchased earlier. The gas companies on Guam have always said they’re getting it from Singapore, a single provider. Well, we’re going to have to start seeing some documentation, I think."
Gas prices on Guam rose four times since the war on Iran began on February 28, or March 1 Guam time.
In the meantime, congressional candidate Mary Torres has also requested a Federal Trade Commission review for potential price gouging concerns.
