The island is gearing up for Tropical Storm Sinlaku, as it continues to make its way toward the Marianas.

From home improvement to grocery stores, residents heeding officials’ advice: Prepare now.

“Making sure we have enough water, food, and sealing whatever leaks we can find,” said Jacalyn Cruz, Dededo resident.

“It doesn’t look like it’s going to be storming, but if there’s anything I’ve learned in the year we’ve been here is that it kind of comes out of nowhere. So, like everyone else, we’re running around trying to gather last-minute stuff,” added Yigo resident, Adam Cook.

Meantime, Sinlaku is expected to become a Category 3 to 4 Typhoon, and is expected to pass over Guam between Monday and Wednesday.

For many who experienced Typhoon Mawar, that experience is shaping their preparedness.

“The last time, it was very intense, and I don’t know how intense it could be this time, so we want to be very prepared,” said another resident, Kirsten.

KUAM also caught up with long-time reporter and former Director Of Communications for the Office of the Governor, Krystal Paco-San Agustin, who spent years sharing critical information with the community during weather disasters, as she made her preparations.

“I’m here at Payless getting water and basic necessities. For a long time I was part of the Joint Information Center, and I just want to make sure that I’m practicing what I preach,” said Paco-San Agustin.

She shares these critical preparation tips, “I encourage the people of Guam to prepare and stay ready, and myself, practicing what I preach.”

“You have to go gas your car. I just came from the gas station, a lot of people there, gas my car, filling up the water bottles, making sure that I have a radio, batteries, and candles, and cash, please don’t forget to have cash on hand,” added Paco-San Agustin.
