There have been new details revealed regarding Sunday’s officer-involved shooting, with new information surfacing on how two men, who are now facing multiple felony charges, attempted to evade arrest and sent a GPD pd officer to the hospital.

33-year-old Wayner George and 26-year-old Heric Andrew are now facing several felony charges for their alleged involvement in the shooting incident that sent a Guam Police Department officer to the hospital. According to court documents on the day in question, both men were returning to Dededo from a failed drug-deal pick up in Mangilao when they were followed by a marked GPD vehicle in Latte Heights.

Chief of Police Stephen ignacio told KUAM News, “The officers were in pursuit of the vehicle which matched the description of a previously reported stolen vehicle. So that’s what initiated the pursuit."

Court documents say that the vehicle was reported stolen around April 15 in Maite and add that when the car was recovered it did not have the license plates originally issued to it.

As KUAM previously reported the chase ended in the residential neighborhood of Chalan Tan Margarita in Dededo where court documents say Andrew, who has been identified as the alleged driver of the stolen vehicle, reversed and struck a GPD officer in an attempt to flee.

According to the magistrate's report, officers believed George and Andrew were “using deadly force against them” when evading police.

Chief Ignacio said when asked if the shooting was justified in an interview yesterday, “Again we go back to the fact that the operator reversed into the officer, which injured the officer which required medical attention. Again that’s all part of the totality of what we need to investigate and determine what kind of injury was sustained and how much danger the officers were in when the operator decided to reverse into them.”

According to court documents officers reported that a black pistol was thrown out of the vehicle during the pursuit. However, Chief Ignacio told KUAM that as of yesterday the reported gun has yet to be found.

George now faces conspiracy and complicity to distribute a controlled substance as a first degree felony, possession of a schedule II controlled substance as a third-degree felony and destruction of evidence as a misdemeanor.

Meanwhile, Andrew faces conspiracy and complicity to distribute a controlled substance as a first-degree felony, possession of a stolen vehicle as a second-degree felony, possession of a schedule II controlled substance as a third-degree felony, and tampering with a vehicle identification number or other vehicle identifiers as a third-degree felony.
