Scam circulating on WhatsApp claims to be Rev & Tax employee to obtain taxpayer information

An imposter claiming to be a Department of Revenue and Taxation employee is sending WhatsApp messages from phone number 1-938-294-0328 to local taxpayers seeking to extract information about taxes and personal information. 

DRT urges residents to ignore and block these messages.

DRT does not contact taxpayers via WhatsApp, nor does it have an off island number.

Generally, taxpayers are issued a notice regarding their taxes through postal mail and asked to initiate contact with DRT. In the event DRT employees contact a taxpayer, communication is conducted using office phone numbers and email addresses.
